For guidance...we think Biscarrosse is similar to Polzeath, Perranporth or Bude in North Cornwall because of the huge sandy beaches with rolling surf. These resorts are relatively small and more 'bucket-and-spade' than Cote d'Azur. There are similar resorts along the Vendee coast in France too.

Biscarrosse
- a brief introduction
Biscarrosse-Plage
is situated about halfway along the famous Côte d'Argent,
a 200km length of almost unbroken sandy beach stretching
as far as the Pyrénées. It is about 30km south of Arcachon
and the Dune de Pilat (one of the region's 'must-sees') and is some
70kms south west of Bordeaux.
Biscarrosse-Plage is an informal
French seaside resort which comes to life in the summer
months. It's a perfect demonstration of what a summer holiday
is all about in this corner of south west France - endless
sandy beaches; great surf; forest
tracks for rambling and cycling;
lakes and a warm sunny climate. It's not a sophisticated resort - if you want something more discerning then try nearby Cap Ferret or Arcachon. Biscarrosse Plage is straight-forward seaside fun for families who want a simple beach holiday with lots of outdoor activities.
There are two parts to Biscarrosse - the Plage and the Lac - and it's a real bonus to have both beach and lake on your doorstep.
The local lakes,
linked by a picturesque canal are a great
opportunity for whiling away the hours in tranquillity,
listening to the water lapping the sandy shores. The clear,
calm water and white, sandy beaches flanked by pine
forests provide a perfect setting in which to bathe,
take a boat ride, fish, picnic or ramble. They are also very well suited to young families as the water is shallow and calm and a good alternative to the ocean when the surf is powerful.
Add to this the opportunity
for good golf, just about every
watersport imaginable, and a whole host of other activities for children.
Nature lovers will appreciate the
water meadows and reeds are home to numerous species of
migratory and non-migratory birds, the
woods are home to deer, roebuck,
and other animals.

Biscarrosse - Out of Season
French resorts tend to be very seasonal and this can often come as a surprise to visitors who are less familiar with France. Owners of seasonal business such as bars and restaurants can often get by simply by operating in two months of the year - July & August - and are happy to shut down the rest of the year.
Biscarrosse Plage is certainly one of the more seasonal resorts, buzzing in July & August and quiet during other times of the year. There's usually just one or two bars/restaurants at the beach open outside the summer, but there are more options in the surrounding villages. Plus, if you just want to relax, surf, play golf or go for long walks on the beach, or enjoy the tranquility of the vast lakes, this is a perfect place to stay.
