Ref B5
The
apartment is located at Hossegor's famous Place du Landais, a
short distance from the town centre. It is one of the most prime
real estate locations in south west France. This sea-front location
is home to many bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs
- and the apartment is central to all of these amenities.
Hossegor
(pronounced "oz-gorr") is in the Sud Landes
area of south west France, not far from Biarritz.
The area is dominated by its landscape of ocean, lakes and pine
forests, creating one big outdoor playground!
Hossegor benefits from good transport links - the autoroute is
8 kms and this provides easy access north to Bordeaux and south
to Biarritz and Spain. There is a good choice of regional airports
with Biarritz (c.45 mins) being the closest.

Accommodation :
Stunning!
What was once a delapidated French horror is now a stylish, light
and contemporary apartment which fully exploits its unique and
enviable beach-front position. English owners Sam & Martin
have done a fabulous job - you can sense it's been a passionate
project and they are now really reaping the rewards. And with
140m2 of living space plus an additional 80m2 of balcony, it's
extremly spacious.
In our opinion the apartment is an excellent choice for families
with teenagers but not so well-suited for infants and young children
unless they are stringently supervised - please be aware of the
following:
> the apartment is on the first floor
> there is a large balcony (with safety railings of course)
on the first floor
> there is an open-tread spiral staircase in the centre of
the living area
> some night-time noise is possible although windows are double-glazed
Basement & First Floor
The fun starts in the entrance hall which has been converted into
a vibrantly decorated surf storage area - ideal
for putting the board away securely and keeping the wetsuits out
of the main accommodation.
Up the stairs and you are on the first floor where the open-plan
design fully maximises the sunlight and emphasises the summery,
beach 'vibe'. This living area is loosely divided into three parts:
the lounge, dining area and
integrated kitchen.
The lounge has pleny of 'kit' to keep guests happy including wall-mounted
TV with UK satellite plus dvd player. There are two sofas for
relaxing and sliding doors to the balcony.
The dining table comfortably can be extended to seat the nmaximum
number of guests. Sliding doors lead to the balcony - marvel at
the most amazing sunsets and starry nights above the Atlantic
ocean.
The kitchen is recently finished and benefits from all mod cons
including dishwasher, washing machine & dryer, microwave and
conventional oven. This is a property used by its owners for their
own holidays and they like to do a lot of entertaining - it is
therefore very well equipped. A futher set of patio doors lead
from the kitchen to the side balcony.
One of the 5 bedrooms is on the first floor - a twin bedroom
with it's own shower room. A separate
WC is located between the bedroom and shower room.
Balcony
At
80m2, this is a vast outdoor terrace overlooking the sea and Place
du Landais - in the summer time the Place will be packed with
diners eating and drinking alfresco outside the numerous bars
and restaurants. The balcony is double-aspect with the main section
looking directly out to sea - a lot of time will be spent here!
Second
Floor
The main sleeping accommodation - a further 4 bedrooms - are upstairs.
A winding wooden staircase (open-tread) leads from the centre
of the living room to the upstairs landing. Immediately to the
right is the master bedroom. This is a super
double bedroom, very stylish and benefiting from excellent sea
views. A huge feature of this room is the slightly elevated bath-tub
which allows the bather to look out to sea without being overlooked
by the crowds on the Place des Landais! The bathroom also has
double wash-basins.
Of the other three bedrooms, one also commands unbroken sea views.
Most of the clothes storage space is provided by wardrobes in
the corridor and study area.
There is a first floor shower room and separate
WC.
There's also room upstairs for a study area -
internet access is available.
Unfortunately, because of the its sea-front location, there is
no parking space that comes with the apartment.
Assistant
de Vacances Services :
Jemma & Grant are the Assistants de Vacances
at Les Grandes Vagues. They are on hand for general house-keeping
and maid duties and can also cook and help arrange holiday activities
for you.
You can view a full menu of Assistant de Vacances services
available at Les Grandes Vagues.
If there's something else you'd like but you can't see it on the
menu then simply ask us - the Assistant de Vacances service is
very flexible.
Don't forget that included in the rental price is a change of
bed linen and bathroom towels each Saturday.
A comprehensive Information Pack
is provided for arriving guests (emergency telephone numbers,
chemists, banks, supermarkets, festivals, markets, day-trips and
excursions, etc).
A basic Welcome Basket
is also provided. Guests can request an arrivals shopping list
to be purchased via the Assistant de Vacances.

Local
Guide:
Hossegor
It's one of those seaside towns whose population swells exponentially
in the high season. It is a town that has a lot to offer: boutique
shopping, great bars and restaurants, world-famous surfing beaches,
two lovely golf courses ranked in the Top 50 in France and a beautiful
lagoon for safe bathing. It’s little wonder, therefore, that
the town is busy. The remarkable thing is that it's something of
a French (and Spanish) secret; unless you're a dedicated surfer,
the chances are you won't have heard of Hossegor.
In the 1930s, Hossegor attracted an avant-garde fraternity and the
area around the lagoon became something of an artists’ community.
Plush villas and grand houses were built around the lagoon and in
the forests. Today, Hossegor is best-known for its legendary waves,
good enough to warrant the hosting of World Pro surf tournaments
each year. In actual fact, the best time to surf here is in the
Autumn.
Like most of the south west coast, Hossegor is something of an outdoor
playground. Take your pick from surfing, canoeing, sailing,
cycling, tennis, horse-riding and golf
to name a few. Golfers will enjoy the local course, the 1930s-built
Golf d’Hossegor. The traditional club house is also a delight.
A short drive up the road is Seignosse, a water and forest monster
of a course ranked in Continental Europe’s Top 50. There are
other great courses within 45 minutes drive including Moliets, Biarritz-Chiberta
and Biarritz le Phare.
Cyclists can enjoy the many safe forest tracks that connect between
the towns along the coast. Sailing enthusiasts should head for the
Capbreton Marina - 5 kms south of Hossegor. Being so close to the
Pays Basque border, sporting life also includes the legendary game
of pelota. You can watch a game at the fronton
in Hossegor.
Local Area
We wouldn’t blame you for refusing to step foot out of Hossegor
for your entire holiday. However, the area is rich in attractions
so here are just a few suggestions for day-trips:
• Biarritz and St Jean de Luz.
Less than an hour’s drive south are the sophisticated resorts
of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz, the south Atlantic’s
competition to the Côte d’Azur. Both provide excellent
beaches, cuisine and up-market shopping as well as a
good introduction to the Spanish-influenced Pays Basque.
If you have time, drop into the regional capital, Bayonne.
Famed for its ham and its chocolates, Bayonne was under
English rule for 300 years. It is much under-rated and worth a trip
to see its cathedral and walk its ancient streets.
• Spa and thalassotherapy.
In France, the south west is known for its rejuvenating waters,
both salt and fresh varieties. Dax
is the official spa capital of France and is a 40 minute drive from
Hossegor Lac. The Côte Basque – Hendaye,
St Jean de Luz and Biarritz - is home
to numerous thalassotherapy centres.
• Lakes. The freshwater lakes that punctuate
the forest provide a great alternative to the ocean and safer
bathing for children. Rather like the Lake District in England,
each lake, or étang, has its own atmosphere.
Apart from the lagooon, Lac d’Hossegor, there are others nearby
to try: étangs Blanc, Soutsons
and Léon; at the latter you can canoe from
the lake along the serene Courant d’Huchet to the
ocean’s edge.
• Chalosse Country. To the south of
Dax and Mont-de-Marsan you start to enter rural Gascony,
which means several things: foie gras, floc de Gascogne
(sherry) and a pleasantly slow pace of life. The food is
marvellous, the towns are half asleep except for market days, and
the countryside is entirely relaxing. Montfort-en-Chalosse,
Mugron and St. Sever are good
stopping points.
• Basque Country. The delightful rolling
green hills and picture-perfect villages of the Pays Basque are
a must. Ainhoa, Sare, Espelette and
Ascain all perfectly demonstrate Basque village
life. A little further south and you can hike in the
mountain air of the Pyrénées.
• Spain. It’s about 75 minutes to the
border and only a short distance further to the majestic seaside
city of San Sebastian, the Spanish
Basque country’s equivalent of Biarritz. The more adventurous
could drive another hour or so further along the
northern coast to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim.
