Accommodation
:
Superb farmhouse renovation ideal for extended groups and families holidaying together. Formerly a derelict Landais farmhouse, the property has been renovated to a high standard. Many original features have been retained whilst the interior style and furnishings are contemporary.
The property is owned by an ex-investment banker from the City who has settled in the Hossegor area of south west France. les Barthes easily fits into our "Higher Quality" comfort guide). His aim has always been to provide the amenities and equipment which he feels is lacking whenever he goes on holiday with his family (their type of holiday being upper-end self-catering with friends, family, nanny, etc in tow).
Accommodation - ground floor
This is broadly divided into three sections - the 'west-wing', 'east-wing' and main sejour which divides the two wings.
There are 7 large bedrooms. Four have double beds and three have 2 single beds each. Two of those rooms have bunk beds at the moment but they can be dissembled into 2 single beds instead.
The sejour is a vast room and the double-height ceiling adds to the sense of space.
Leading right from the sejour is an additional sitting room with fireplace and a few chairs. From here, the kitchen is newly-fitted with all mod cons (cooker, dishwasher, electric hob, electric oven, freezer, fridge, gas hob, gas oven, microwave) and there is a separate laundry room too (washing machine, dryer, ironing facilities).
There are three bedrooms in the 'east wing':
> Family room which incorporates two inter-connecting rooms and there's a private shower room
> Further bedroom with private bathroom plus separate WC
On the west-wing you will find the other 3 bedrooms, all of which are very similar in size and style. These are accessed from an inner corridor and all share a large bathroom. One of the bedrooms has direct access to the front courtyard.
Between the two wings there is a Kids room with television and lots of kids' toys, etc. Conveniently, there is SKY TV available with the basic package of 'free-to-air' channels (BBC1 BBC2, ITV, Cbeebies, ITV2 ITV3 Ch4 Ch5). For the full channel listing, go to Sky TV's website. There are no premium channels (like Sky Sports and Sky Movies) available.
From this Kids room you can walk outside to a covered play area with table tennis.
Accommodation - first floor
From the staircase, there is a mezzanine which will be used for a 'quiet' area for reading. The only other room on the first floor is the vast master bedroom suite. This exceptional room features exposed stonework and beams, hardwood floors, chimney, separate lounge area and a beautfiul king-size bed 200cm. The en-suite includes shower and WC. At 60m2, the master bedroom alone is bigger than many holiday homes!
You can see floorplans for the ground floor and first floor.
If you have a party of more than 14 people, there is space in the bedrooms to accommodate more beds - please enquire with us.
Outside
> Car port plus ample parking on the large driveway
> Heated swimming pool 10x5m. The depth is 1.5m throughout with steep corner steps
> Grounds of 3500m2 including large front garden suitable for ball games, fruit trees and an old tractor! The grounds are fenced on one side and open on the other side - the grounds give way to open farmland. The border of the grounds is completely fenced off.
> Impressive covered terrace running the length of the west-side of the property. This incorporates a summer kitchen, BBQ and outdoor dining table. We suspect most meals will be enjoyed here!

Local
Guide :
Pey & immediate area
Pey is a quiet farming hamlet which benefits from the presence of an artisan boulanger! He will maket-to-order if you give him your requirements a day ahead. Also, there's tennis courts in the village and some excellent wooded walks in les barthes - the lowland floodplains of the River Adour.
There is a small bar/tabac in the nearby village of Josse 5 minute drive), and St Vincent de Tyrosse is the nearest commercial centre where you will find all the shops you need.
Coastline
Like most of the south west coast, Capbreton-Hossegor is something
of an outdoor playground. Take your pick from surfing,
canoeing, sailing, diving, fishing, cycling, tennis, horse-riding
and golf to name a few. Golfers will enjoy
the local course, the 1930s-built Golf d’Hossegor. The
traditional club house is also a delight. A short drive up the
road is Seignosse, a water and forest monster of a course ranked
in Continental Europe’s Top 50. There are other great
courses within 45 minutes drive including Moliets and Biarritz
le Phare.
Capbreton regularly holds major surfing competitions;
the whole Aquitaine coast is a perfect venue for surfers but
at Capbreton the presence of an offshore hollow in the sea-bed
gives the waves here that extra edge. If you don't fancy a go
yourself, just sit on the sea-front with a drink of your choice
and watch the surfers ride to shore.
Cyclists can enjoy the many safe forest tracks that connect
between the towns along the coast. Sailing enthusiasts
should head for the Capbreton Marina. Being so close to the
Pays Basque border, sporting life also includes the legendary
game of pelota. You can watch a game at the
fronton in Hossegor.

We wouldn’t blame you for refusing to step foot out of
Capbreton for your entire holiday. However, the area is rich
in attractions so here are just a few suggestions for day-trips:
• Biarritz and St Jean de
Luz. Less than an hour’s drive south are the
sophisticated resorts of Biarritz and St Jean de
Luz, the south Atlantic’s competition to the Côte
d’Azur. Both provide excellent beaches, cuisine
and up-market shopping as well as a good introduction to the
Spanish-influenced Pays Basque. If you have time,
drop into the regional capital, Bayonne. Famed
for its ham and its chocolates, Bayonne was under
English rule for 300 years. It is much under-rated and worth
a trip to see its cathedral and walk its ancient
streets.
• Spa and thalassotherapy.
In France, the south west is known for its rejuvenating waters,
both salt and fresh varieties. Dax
is the official spa capital of France and is a 40 minute drive
from Hossegor Lac. The Côte Basque –
Hendaye, St Jean de Luz and Biarritz
- is home to numerous thalassotherapy centres.
• Lakes. The freshwater lakes that
punctuate the forest provide a great alternative to the ocean
and safer bathing for children. Rather like the
Lake District in England, each lake, or étang,
has its own atmosphere. Apart from the local Lac
d’Hossegor, there are others nearby to try: étangs
Blanc, Soutsons
and Léon; at the latter you can canoe
from the lake along the serene Courant d’Huchet to the
ocean’s edge.
• Chalosse Country. To the south
of Dax and Mont-de-Marsan you start to enter rural Gascony,
which means several things: foie gras, floc de Gascogne
(sherry) and a pleasantly slow pace of life. The food is
marvellous, the towns are half asleep except for market days,
and the countryside is entirely relaxing. Montfort-en-Chalosse,
Mugron and St. Sever are good
stopping points.
• Basque Country. The delightful
rolling green hills and picture-perfect villages of the Pays
Basque are a must. Ainhoa, Sare, Espelette
and Ascain all perfectly demonstrate Basque
village life. A little further south and you can
hike in the mountain air of the Pyrénées.
• Spain. It’s about 75 minutes
to the border and only a short distance further to the majestic
seaside city of San Sebastian,
the Spanish Basque country’s equivalent of Biarritz. The
more adventurous could drive another hour or
so further along the northern coast to Bilbao
to see the Guggenheim.
